Sole Survivors: The Rarest Books in the World

‘Sole Survivors:  The Rarest Books in the World’ is an exhibition of exceptionally rare books. They exist in only one copy in the world: at the Marsh's Library in Dublin. Unchanged for three centuries, this perfectly preserved library of the early Enlightenment, with its original oak bookcases, houses more than 25,000 rare and fascinating books.

‘Sole Survivors’ opened to visitors on 17th May 2018 and will run until the end of the year. There is a free, online version of the exhibition available via their website:

Every Irish person has more than 14,000 living relatives, research finds

The average Irish adult has more than 14,000 living cousins scattered around the world, according to data released to mark World DNA Day. Genomics database reveals people in Ulster have more cousins than those in Connacht.

Precious Irish-language manuscripts showcased by Trinity College Dublin

Trinity Library’s collection of over 200 medieval and early modern manuscripts written in the Irish language is ranked as one of the most important collections in the world. Covering over a thousand years of Irish literature and learning these unique texts shine a light on how Irish society operated.  

New research on these Irish-language manuscripts was presented at a conference in Trinity Long Room Hub Arts and Humanities Research Institute, which provides greater context to these Irish-language treasures. In addition, an exhibition in Trinity’s iconic Long Room, and accompanying online exhibition, will allow the public to enjoy highjlights of this collection at first hand.
