Royal Irish Academy, Dawson Street
Weapons in Irish History
Lar Joye, National Museum of Ireland
Date: Friday 8th of September
Time: 3.00pm – 4.30pm
Venue: Members Room, Royal Irish Academy, Dawson St.
The decisive battles of Ireland’s history were won not only by men or ideas, but by an ever-evolving arms race of weaponry. Join Lar Joye, curator of the Transport, Flag and Military History collections at the National Museum of Ireland in Collins Barracks, as he takes his audience from swords to firearms, dispelling myths and revealing the realities of warfare in the past. With an opportunity to inspect and handle some of the weapons themselves, this is a talk bound to bring Ireland’s military history to life.
Biography
Lar Joye curated the award-winning Soldiers & Chiefs exhibition at Collins Barracks, and recently partnered with Anu productions on the play Sunder and These Rooms, which won an Irish Times Theatre award in 2017. He is a graduate of UCD, Leicester University and the Getty Leadership Institute, chairman of the Irish National Committee of the Blue Shield and a member of the Board of Directors of the Irish Museums Association and the Military Heritage of Ireland Trust.
