Edited by Thomas Hill, the Registers of Bramfield, Co. Suffolk cover the years 1539-1596 and 1693-1889. The preface of the book explains the missing years with the loss of the second book or registers, but the editor does attempt to fill in the gaps from other sources which adds greatly to this volume as source for Bramfield. The preface also includes many other useful snippets of information including lists of Churchwardens and some financial accounts. The actual records of the registers themselves make up the vast bulk of this publication. There are approximately 3000 baptisms, 1000 marriages and 2000 burials included here. The burial registers are also noteworthy for the lengthy description of the dispute between John Pryme and the Vicar over the issue of payment of dues. Pryme was excommunicated but later a reconciliation was reached. The publication is completed by a 23 page name index. For any one with family connections or an interest in Bramfield, Suffolk, this is a vital publication.
