Published in 12 parts over 6 volumes, Willis’ work is a vast collection of biographical notices of some of the most notable Irish figures in history. Volume V Part I was published in 1843 This part concludes the ecclesiastical section from the previous volume with George Berkeley, Bishop of Cloyne. This is followed by the literary section which includes Robert Boyle, Valentine Greatrakes, John Toland, George Farquhar and Sir Richard Steele. From there the author enters the fifth period covered, covering the reign of George III. The political section includes Charles Lucas, James, Earl of Charlemont, Henry Flood and Barry Yelverton, Viscount Avonmore, amongst others.
