The story of the pursuit of freedom and equality by the LGBT community in Ireland is a long and often troubled one. Prior to 1993, homosexuality was illegal in Ireland. Over the past 3 years, Edmund Lynch and his film crew interviewed over 160 members of the LGBT community, climaxing in landmark documentary ‘A Different Country’, available on RTE player. In this workshop, Edmund shares his insights into the LGBT experience around the country over the last century.
Edmund Lynch is the producer and directory of A Different Country, and owner of It’s A Wrap Productions. Lynch was one of the original founder members of the Sexual Liberation Movement, Ireland's first LGBT movement, in 1973.
Tickets are free but must be booked on Eventbrite. Be advised, this workshop will take place at The Military Archives, Cathal Brugha Barracks.
The Expert workshops are organised by Fiona Fitzsimons, of the Irish Family History Centre (Eneclann).
